Tommy Hill is now ready for Nurburgring Supersport race
May 20, 2008
Tommy Hill is now ready for Nurburgring Supersport race.
Tommy Hill was really unlucky when he has crashed during his first tryout with HANNspree Honda Althea team during Calafat winter testing. After a difficult operation and a very long period of rehabilitation, Tommy has started to improve his physical condition by working out every day in the gym. This difficult period is now over and he’s ready to ride his CBR 600 RR Honda for the first time in mid-June during the Nurburgring race in Germany.

Tommy is the bad time over now?
An injury like mine which prevented me to test my bike and making me miss the first 5 rounds hasn’t been easy and I’m not happy having missed out important testing with my team. I wanted to enter the season with high hopes of winning races, but I’ll be fit for Nurburgring.

What do you remember of your crash in Calafat?
This was not a crash that I wanted to remember. The only thing I remember was my leg spinning around, and from there I knew I had a big problem. I honestly thought I had lost my leg. I was so disappointed and also annoyed that I would not be able to start off the season with Hannspree Honda Althea.

How is your physical condition now?
Having x-rays taken every 2 weeks, I’m nearly turning green with radiation but this has allowed my doctor and I to see exactly how my leg is healing. My doctor has been fantastic, and understands that I am a motorcycle racer not a belly dancer, and that I need to be back
on the track as soon as possible. But as you can imagine this is a very serious break in an important part of my body. Anyway I have been training in the gym seven days a week, trying to get back to full fitness. I have started cycling again in order to get strength back
into my leg, and I’m now ready for Germany.

What do you think about this year’s SS World Championship?
The racing this year has been very fast and good to watch. The race in Assen is what Supersport is all about, very fast and close up racing which I like and miss, this is why I need to get back on the track.

What do you think about your team´s results in these first four SS races?
The Hannspree Honda Althea Team is fantastic, and I can’t wait to start working with them again. This year has been hard as they have an excellent Honda support team. The racing this year is very competitive and fast. Unfortunately, I was injured during testing, Nannelli injured his shoulder and now Rolfo is also injured, this is definitely not good!!!

Are you ready to come back for SS Nurburgring race?
I shall be there and ready for Nurburgring, and I hope my leg is ready for me to race, and I hope get some good results. I have many doctors in the UK looking after me and making sure I do the right thing to make my leg strong again.

What are your targets for the next races?
As I have missed a lot of this year’s testing and races it is going to be very hard. I hope to be in the top 10-12 in the first round and slowly work up from there and get some good results. Once again I can’t thank all my team and sponsors enough for their long lasting support and backing during these times.

What is your plan for 2009 if your season ends well?
In 2009 I would like to go to Superbike, as I have rode a superbike for many years and feel I would do ok on a good bike. But first I must get good results in 2008.

Welcome back Tommy. We’ve missed you!
Nurgburgring-Race
June 15, 2008
A dramatic Supersport race for HANNSpree Honda Althea team today. Immediately after the start of the race, in the first curve German rider Arne Tode hit Tommy Hill who was injured in the impact, breaking his right thighbone. This is the same thighbone the rider had injured seven months ago in Calafat during his first winter
test. Nannelli was also involved in the accident but without any physical consequences. For this reason the race was red flagged and he restarted with his second spare bike but had to re-enter the box because of some technical problems thus ending the race. The entire team is extremely sad for what happened to Tommy and it’s disappointing to know that he has to go through surgery once again.
Gianluca Nannelli : “ Another unlucky race for me and for our entire team. I’m disconcerted because of Tommy’s accident and I don’t have much to add about my race. I started with my second bike because I was also involved in the crash at the first curve. My start was not that great and after few laps I started having mechanical
problems. Because of these problems I preferred to not continue the race and I returned to the box. I wish all the best to my teammate and friend Tommy during this difficult and delicate moment.

Alles Gute an Tommy! Hoffentlich bald wieder gesund und vorne in der SSP WM dabei!!!
